15 year old invents torch powered by the human body

15 year old Ann Makosinski from Canada has invented a torch which is powered by the heat produced by the human hand.

The torch uses peltier tiles which produce electricity when one side off the tile is hotter than the other. The unit cost for the complete torch is around £17 but in large scale manufacture would likely be a lot less. Ann points out that it took her most of a school year to develop because she had to keep up with lessons and home work – pretty humbling for the rest of the us.
