I am very disappointed to read that a ruling has been made that will breach the consumer rights act 2015 and UK contract law.
When purchasing my membership the information from the Labour party stated that I would be able to vote in a leadership contest, I read today that the party has decided not to allow people who became members of the party after January 12th 2016 to do this, such a decision is illegal.
The consumer rights act covers services such as this and states that a service, once purchased, should be delivered as advertised and continue to be delivered as such. It protects the consumer’s right to have a service continue in the way it was purchased.
Similarly, UK contract law is applicable regarding the agreement between The labour party and myself, the information given at the time of sign up, forms part of an agreement and which both parties are bound to by law, Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Company refers.
I await confirmation that the terms of the agreement surrounding my membership will be upheld within 10 working days or legal action will be taken.
